I bought two amaryllis bulbs in the post-Christmas sales. They're on my desk next to the east-facing window in my bedroom. The second one I bought was already growing past the cardboard even without water or sun; I've been surprised how much it's grown just this week. The other bulb, however, hasn't done much. The blooms are supposed to be bright red (first/slow one) and reddish-orange with white lines (second/fast one).

Below are two photos of the amaryllis, plus new photos of my belly dance outfit(s) with commentary.

Close up of the fast growing bulb. It's already shot up a few more inches since I took this photo.

The first version of the belly dance outfit. The top is a black button-up sweater I've been using since it's been cold. I haunted the local Salvation Armys for months looking for a plain, long white skirt and couldn't be happier with the one I found. It has a liner, is 100% cotton and very comfortable, and flares out beautifully. The silver bracelet/ring is one of the jewelry pieces my grandparents sent me this year for Christmas.

Slightly blurred, but I had a hard time getting a full-body shot.

The second version. Years ago in my Great Female Underwear Purging, I decided not to throw away three sports bras. For years they sat at the bottom of my drawer, untouched. Now I finally have a use for them. Some more arm jewelry, and a different headband (also sent by my grandparents).

This is another skirt I found at the Salvation Army and bought because it was so unusual. It also has a liner and flows well with movement.

At this point, I got tired of stationary posing and set my camera up to randomly take photos during my belly dance warm-up/dancing, though most of the photos came out blurry. As you can see (maybe), I tuck my MP3 player into the side of my skirt. The band reflecting a lot of light is my headphones. The gold ring/bracelet was also from my grandparents and is identical to the silver one. On the feet, I chose red anklets to add a splash of colour to my mostly black and white theme, plus the white set was unavailable. (Perhaps they add a bit too much colour?)

This photo just cracked me up.

Version four, back to the black top.

You can definitely see my MP3 player here. I should have moved my green bowl out of the way; I didn't realise it would be in frame. (I use it to handwash my thigh high tights/socks.) The 'necklace' here is just my second headband loosely encircling my neck.

Version five. This was my first belly dance outfit, which is actually an old ballet outfit. I think it looks the best in photos, but rarely wear it as: (1) it's harder to wash (and there's still a smell in it I haven't gotten out), (2) it's not as comfortable, and (3) the top loves riding down. Also swapped in an ankh collar.
